Ministry Opportunities

Volunteer & Paid Help

The Plateau depends heavily on volunteers and a few paid weekend helpers to keep its ministry running smoothly all year long. Explore the many opportunities you have to serve with us!

Kitchen Help

Volunteers help out at the campPocono Plateau does much more than summer camp! Retreat season is a busy time for the camp, and nowhere is that more true than in the kitchen. So if you are looking for a simple, but meaningful, way to get involved at the Plateau, consider working in the kitchen for a weekend.

Working in the kitchen is fun, and no previous cooking experience is necessary. You will be able to work all of Saturday and half of Sunday, enabling the retreat guests to get their food in a quality and timely manner. All helpers, from high school age and up, are welcome. And best of all - you get paid for helping out and having fun at the same time. So contact the Plateau office if you are interested.

Adventure Challenge ProgramLearn belaying and group leadership skills.

During the retreat season we serve many churches, schools, and community groups through our Adventure Challenge Program. We have two high ropes courses, a Climbing tower, Zip line, Leap of Faith, and a Low Ropes/Team Building course. All of these exciting options require trained and seasoned facilitators, and without them, we cannot run this part of our ministry.

Would you consider joining our ranks of experienced ropes course facilitators? We would train you in the necessary skills and then slowly help you to build experience, never by yourself, but always side-by-side with a veteran facilitator. You will learn proper belay technique, how to handle and care for climbing ropes and equipment, invaluable leadership skills as you prepare to facilitate a group on our Low Ropes course, and many other necessary proficiencies as you learn to lead groups. This type of experience is also very beneficial for résumés and for future job prospects. If this line of work interests you, then please contact our Program Manager at jesse@poconoplateau.org .

Summer Camp Counselors

Summer Camp Counselors are needed for one-week periods of time. Working with the age group of your choice, you and a co-counselor are responsible for 12 campers. You may be asked to lead events such as: Bible studies, games, and fire building. Check out the summer camp schedule to see which camp you would like to attend. Then, contact the Plateau office for more information or just fill out an application and send it to us.

Work Groups

Work Groups can volunteer to spend a day or more doing maintenance projects to help keep Pocono Plateau in good working order. There is plenty of work to be done from splitting firewood to painting the maintenance shed to spreading wood chips in our recreational areas. Any type, age, or size group is welcome. If you (and some friends) would like to come and volunteer time on maintenance projects please contact the Plateau office. Specific arrangements for dates and type of work can be made with the Manager of Maintenance.
