Safety at Camp

The head lifeguard reminds a camper of the rulesPocono Plateau keeps safety as a priority. Every three years, the American Camp Association (ACA) evaluates the Plateau for safety in over three hundred key areas of the camping program. In 2008 we recieved accreditation, again, from the ACA (http://www.acacamps.org/) upon completion of another successful evaluation. The ropes courses are inspected every year by an Association for Challenge Course Technology certified company. Each ropes facilitator is trained by our resident Program Manager and ranked according to their abilities and experience.

Saftey is first in adventure programmingAll of our employees (year-round, summer staff, summer volunteers) have background checks and references before they are accepted. At least one person from each area is trained in CPR and first aid. The lifeguard staff is certified in lifeguarding, professional CPR, first aid, and underwater search and rescue. During summer camp 2 registered nurses are on duty at all times with one infirmary on the Main Site and one on the Adventure Site.

Pocono Plateau is also a member of Christian Camp and Conference Association. CCCA (www.ccca.org) is a resource enabling us to become an even better camp and retreat center.
