Plateau Information
Recreation
Facilities
Pocono
Plateau has areas for various recreational activities including basketball,
softball, soccer, volleyball, tetherball, four-square, ultimate frisbee,
boating, canoeing, fishing, interpretive nature walk, campfires, hayrides,
game room-ping pong, foosball, board games, and hiking (see below). During
the winter (weather permitting), your group can enjoy sledding, ice skating,
"broomball" and cross-country skiing (extra fee for ski rental).
A three-acre grass field is located across from Pocono Plateau Lake which
includes a softball field and a large playing area. Most equipment is supplied
by the Plateau, but you must bring your own equipment for: softball, frisbee,
fishing, and sledding.
Hiking Trails
The Plateau 's 750 acres contain five hiking trails. HIking options range from a 20 minute walk on the Lake Trail around Lake Pocono Plateau to a one and a half hour "hike" on the Blue Bird Trail.
We also offer a self-guided Morrison Nature Walk, an interpretive
trail with a guide booket which emphasizes the beauty of the northern hardwood
forest. The Pocono's leading
Naturalist,
John Serrao, compiled the interpretive information about plants, trees and
habitats along the walk, which includes 26 stops at posted trail markers.
The Morrison Nature Walk is one mile in length and hikers should allow at
least one hour to leisurely explore it.
Hayrides
Your group may wish to enjoy a 45 minute wagon 'Hayride' through the trails, woods and fields of Pocono Plateau.
$100.00/34 people maximum. Must be scheduled in advance.
Program Resources
Retreat
groups staying at Pocono Plateau plan and provide their own program. Program
materials (pencils, paper, craft supplies, etc.) must be provided by the
guest group. As a part of your program, the Plateau can provide a variety
of non-traditional experienced-based activities focusing on group building
and personal development. These activities are all a part of the Plateau's
Adventure Program and can include low challenge, standard high challenge,
cooperative high challenge, and/or our climbing tower and bouldering wall.
NOTE: Adventure Programs must be scheduled in advance of your program (ideally, at the same time you schedule your retreat) and must be supervised by one of the Plateau's trained facilitators. The cost for these activities is extra.
Local Attractions
Being located in the Pocono Mountains, there are many tourist attractions and activities near by. Some retreat groups decide to schedule some time to visit these sites.
